Elementalist/Necro or Necro/Elementalist?
I haven't seen much talk about Necro/Elementalist, and did some looking for Elementalist/Necro...but would this be a good combo for a newbie? I did play GW a while back, but never really finished the Prophecies campaign. I had lost my disks and game, and never felt bothered to buy GW again. But I bought the trilogy pack yesterday, so I'm gonna play again.
Not sure how good of a combo those two class setups would be. I really like the Necromancer, but the Elementalists look fun too. Do note, I am a total newbie really...farthest I got in GW was a bit into post-searing of the Prophecies campaign (the one I'm going to start with). I don't mind a challenge or learning things though, even if those combos aren't really newbie friendly, I'm up for learning it. I plan to do PvP mostly, but I like doing PvE and going through the storyline and doing quests and stuff. I don't have any friends that play, so at least for PvE, it will probably mostly be me and my henchmen. Any advice? Thanks |

Well, I've never really seen a truly bad profession combination. There's usually at least one build that can be used for ever profession combo that's half decent. If you want some help, go to http://pvx.wikia.com and check out the builds there for a N/E and a E/N in both the PvP section and the PvE section. :} You can grab ideas from them or even use them wholly to experiment with. One thing I learned about profession combinations, is that you don't really want to build your bar around what you want your professions to be all the time. Rather, find something you like to play with in your primary profession, and see what secondary profession compliments that. If you were to choose a Necromancer primary, an Elementalist secondary might be good for saving energy or just using various spike skills. Although personally, being a Necromancer fan myself, I have to say that Necromancers can spike pretty well on their own with the right build. However, if you were to choose an Elementalist primary, a Necromancer secondary might open up a new world of hexes and conditions for you to play with and pair with your Elementalist skills. There are, of course, other ways for a E/N or a N/E to benefit from their secondaries, but that's just the general idea that you want to think about. It's like a newbie who wants to be a Mesmer but also have a kitty pet so they choose Ranger secondary. :P They soon learn that maybe sacrificing their entire secondary class (and one skill slot) just to have a pet (who dies mostly) might not have been a good idea. Not saying pets are a bad idea, but you get my drift. :} Oh! And one other thing: Don't feel like your secondary choice in the beginning is permanent. You can always change it later. And many people go through the entire PvE side of the game with nothing but primary class skills on their bar. So if you choose a secondary and end up not liking it, you aren't obligated to use skills from that class. You can do just fine without using any secondary class skills in a general PvE setting. Make a Necromancer and an Elementalist. As secondary profession, i suggest you to choose /Monk for the hard res. Don't warry about complimenting your primary with secondary skills when you are in low-level areas, only primary skills do just fine with both professions. When you reach level 20 and you unlock all seconday professions you can start thinking about efficient builds which rely on sinergy between primary and secondary profs, but at the beginning just don't worry about it.
If you are interested in good builds for both professions and general guidelines on how to play them, you can find some interesting guide in the Campfire section of this forum http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/e...list-f205.html http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/n...ncer-f208.html For PvP, wait until you have unlocked several skills, armor's upgrades (runes & insignias) and weapons' upgrades in PvE, then start choosing simple builds in PvXWiki http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Category:G...king_RA_builds and try them out in Random Arenas (or Alliance Battles if you have 3 friends or if you are willing to PuG). The most important thing in PvP is NOT the build, but knowing the different techniques (which apply to all builds), so you can just pick up a good build and learn how to play using it. Make a PvP only char for doing PvP, and start unlocking items as soon as you make enough Balthazar Factions. Very Important Items are Superior Vigor Rune, HP+30 for shield, 20% Ench staff wrapping (useful for your elementalist), 20% HCT and 20% HSR of item's attribute for wands, focus, and inscriptions. If you want PvP to be an exciting experience, be prepared to read a lot (you can find a lot of useful guides in this forum, but even more simple threads all around it, so learn to use the Search function and use it a lot) and to practice more. It will be difficult and probably a little frustrating (mostly in RA) the first times, but as you grow in skill you will have a lot of fun. Finally, it's really, really, really advisable that you find a guild (the best would be a PvP-dedicated guild willing to teach newbies) and build a strong friend list if you want to go beyond RA and AB pugging. There are definitely some good combos.
* To an Earth Ele, having some ranks in Curses is nice for Enfeebling Blood, which helps with some Earth spells With GoLE, you can use some more interesting spells: * Chilblains @ 8 Curses combines decently with GoLE for a wide-AoE enchantment removal in areas with pesky AoE enchantments * Meekness for a wide-AoE version of Shadow of Fear * Suffering for a wide-AoE cover hex, or trigger hex for party members requiring hexes, like Discorders * The only thing I can think of for a N/E is GoLE, but Necros have SR, which trumps GoLE. Hmmm.
One of my characters is an E/N While getting to lvl20 i played a bit with summoning minions. Now i only use Weaken Armor and the Sunspear rank skill Necrosis (with a Searing Flames fire build). There r for sure (some) Ele and Necro skills that benefit each other. I am leaning towards to say choose the primary that looks best to u, armors wise. Just my 3.75 cents... |
